Lynn Gottlieb, one of the first 8 women to become a rabbi in Jewish history, is the first woman rabbi to visit Iran , leading two citizen diplomacy delegations with the Fellowship of Reconciliation that have helped open up dialogue between Shia Muslims and Jews and brought attention to the ancient Jewish community in Iran.
Lynn has has lead numerous delegations to Palestine and Israel and is known as one of the courageous voices for ending Israeli Occupation of Palestine in the United States. She has been active on this issue for the past forty years. Lynn is deeply involved in interfaith, multicultural and intergenerational convivencia (the work of living together) and cofounded The Muslim Jewish Peacewalk with Abdul Rauf Campos Marquetti which brought together over 10,000 people in 18 cities throughout the United States and Canada on sacred peace pilgrimages.
Lynn leads multifaith wilderness peace camps, is a storyteller and percussionist whose writings appears in over 30 books. Recently Lynn edited Crossing Borders for Fellowship, the magazine of Fellowship of Reconciliation. Lynn is cofounder of Shomer Shalom Network for Jewish Nonviolence which is now housed at the Community of Living Traditions at Stony Point Center in NY. CLT is a multifaith residence devoted to nonviolence and peace advocacy.
She is a teacher of The Torah of Nonviolence and one of the founders of The Jewish Renewal Movement.
